What is the difference between  Preschool & Daycare.

The main difference between preschool and childcare is the amount of time children are in care away from their primary caregivers.
We have found that preschool often offers families an experience where children are able to learn in an environment where specific educational goals are present. Preschools often have smaller class sizes and teachers are able to adapt curriculum to the needs of the children enrolled as well as develop deeper connections with children and families.

What is Our Daycare Like?

Our daycare classroom is bright, colorful, and inviting. We have divided the classroom up into learning areas. Each area is designed to meet specific developmental learning goals. We incorporate elements from different early childhood learning theories such as Montessori and Reggio Emilia to encourage children’s independence and foster a life-long love of learning. Small class sizes allow children to develop meaningful friendships with their peers as well as their teachers. Our classrooms are multi-age (2-5 years old) which we have found encourages leadership skills within our older children and the desire to be challenged and learn more difficult tasks for our younger children.

What is the Ratio of  kids to Teachers?

Our teacher to child ratio is 1:8, one teacher to every 8 children. We do not have more than 16 children enrolled in a classroom per day.

What is the bathroom  routine like?

We have child sized toilets in our bathroom that is attached to our classroom. Children are able to access the bathroom as needed and teachers encourage children to try going potty throughout the school day. Children do not need to be potty-trained to attend Rainbow Learning Academy daycare or Preschool. Teachers work closely with each family to encourage consistency in potty-training between school and home. Diapers are checked at least twice during the 4 hours school day and changed as needed.

Is There A Curriculum?

Rainbow Learning Academy daycare believes children learn by doing. Play based learning is an intrinsic in young children because play is what they do best. Through an understanding of child development and how playing builds the foundation for learning, our teachers provide a number of activities that are hands on and developmentally appropriate. Through guided discovery and hands-on learning, children will be involved in a fully integrated curriculum. The broad range of age appropriate activities will easily engage children 2 -5. A day at Rainbow Learning Academy daycare and preschool includes story time, art projects, dramatic play, social skills, science, cooking, fine and large motor activities and much more. We provide a setting which fosters self-esteem, builds confidence and is based on respect.  It is our goal that the children will be empowered to take risks in their learning.
Curriculum at Rainbow Learning Academy daycare and preschool is play based and child directed. We incorporate elements from different early childhood learning theories such as Montessori and Reggio Emilia and utilize the creative curriculum approach. We believe our teachers know the children in their class best, therefore our lead teachers decide what themes to focus on based on the interests and needs of the children in their classrooms.

Daycare Q&A

Tell me all about the cleanliness?

Maintaining a clean and well-organized classroom is very important. Toys are cleaned and sanitized on a rotating schedule. The classroom is cleaned by teachers throughout the day and children are encouraged to help clean-up the learning areas as they are used. We believe this helps children learn responsibility and take pride in their learning environment.

Tell me about snack time.

Children eat snack together family style. Rainbow Learning Academy provides snack for our preschool and daycare. We have a 4-hour school day and we provide a snack that consists of a fruit or vegetable, a non-meat-based protein and a carbohydrate.
Parents can provide food for their child’s snack as long as it does not contain peanuts or tree nuts as we are a nut free facility. Families are encouraged to allow their children to eat the snack provided at preschool so that children get an opportunity to try foods they might not try at home.

What about parent participation?

While parents are always welcome in our classrooms, we have found that daycare is a great opportunity for children to engage in a learning environment separate from their parents. Parents are encouraged to participate in our family activities that are offered at least once per quarter as well as volunteer as classroom parents that assist teachers with Scholastic book orders, coordinating family potlucks and prepping items for various classroom projects. We also offer fieldtrips once per quarter and parents are encouraged to attend with their children.

How do you utilize the indoor play area during the day or classes?

We utilize the indoor play area as our recess playground, it gives the children a space outside of the classroom to explore different toys as well as get some wiggles out in the bounce house and on the slide. We also use the space to help give children a break from the classroom if they need a little extra time or might be feeling overwhelmed.
